Charlene had a number of scrappers for the calendar class. Each client scrapped a flip-over, month-at-a-glance calendar. This was such fun. Each scrapper was also blessed with a goodie bag containing the Miami Canners products.

Here is a photo of Angie and her mom playing with the very addictive Spellbinders Calibur Machine. Of course, after working with this tool, Angie had to take one home. As we tell all our clients, once you touch this tool you are addicted. You are so spoilt for choice with the variety of cutting dies available in the shop.

Angie and her mom scrapped together, but each one did their own thing.   In the end they had to pack up and go before we had time to take any photos of their calendars.

Nicci had a ball. She could not stop talking about the great variety of paper and embellishments to choose from.  You could just see how she enjoyed herself.  She was in her element. It is always such a pleasure when you notice how all your hard work pays off and how it touches our clients. This makes everything worthwhile.

We hope you all had just such a good time as we all did. Thank you for spending the time with us.

It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to Priscilla Kelly who resigned in January so that she could join her brother and assist him with his business. Priscilla will be dearly missed. She has a creative flair second to none and it is not often that we meet a person with such great talent. We would like to wish both her and Clarissa all the best for the future.  Bohemian Scrapsody will most definitely miss you.  Thank you for your loyalty and hard work over the years you were with us. We wish you all the best for the future. May you be blessed with happiness.

Alinda Whitehorn joined Bohemian Scrapsody as from end January 2012 to replace Priscilla. She has been a long-standing client of Bohemian and has always expressed the wish to work in a shop like ours.

She is a talented scrapper and enjoys scrapping her daughter and family. Vibrant colours are especially her favorite. Trust me, there is nothing conventional about Alinda. Welcome to Bohemian Scrapsody Alinda. We trust you are going to have a long and happy stay with us.

If ever there was an interesting project, it was this one – Anuschka Smith  was required to decorate the front covers of her school books as part of a school assignment. This was quite an exercise as the books are used on a daily basis and the covers – although beautiful in their looks – also had to be practical.

Here is a photo of Anuschka showing one of her exercise books – Music.

Here are a few more of her masterpieces. The Graphic 45 range lent itself beautifully to the Maths theme of this book.

Herewith a picture of her Life Skills book. Anuschka especially amazed us with her initiative in choosing paper. She knew exactly what she wanted to portray and with each book, she succeeded beautifully in projecting the topic.

Science  was a big challenge – just check what she did and how it represents the topic.

Well done Anuschka. I am sure your books blew the teachers’ minds away. You have certainly excelled at achieving what you set out to do. Hope you have a wonderful matric year and that all your wishes come through.

Hi Fellow Scrappers,

“SCRAP-AWAY AT JEFFREYS BAY”
30 March 2012 – 01 April 2012

Jeffreysbaai is so 45 minute vanaf Port Elizabeth.

So, asseblief, kontak ons as jy meer wil weet.

The Delegation Form and Event Program are availalbe on our website.  Click on the link http://www.scrapbookrhapsody.com/scrapaway.html to enter on-line, complete the relevant fields and send these to us.  We will contact you once we have received your booking form.

Bohemian Scrapsody had their first big class for the season on the 16th December. We made Christmas decorations. The class started with the easy part – the Christmas balls – an easy start to the day.

Miami Canners donated a lot of products and each scrapper was blessed with a goodie bag of products and a Miami apron.

Here we have a picture of the group all dressed up and ready to scrap.

Ronelle Barnard and her daughter Runé spent some quality mother and daughter time together and enjoyed every minute crafting together. The Xmas balls and bird cages that they made came out stunning!! Here they stand with their gift boxes – ready to start scrapping ******

Elmie and Isabel also joined the class and it was all fun and games. They never stopped laughing and just having fun while scrapping to their hearts’ delight.

Joey Grundling joined us from Seaview. She slipped away for some creative therapy for the day.

We all like new toys, but my experience is that scrappers and card makers are a breed on their own. Buying new toys and then using them (we are actually referring to the tools to be more precise)  is the most exciting experience for all of us. To top it all, we want everything – even if it means we have to take our bread money to buy it.

She cut and embossed and cut and embossed. There was no stop!!  This was really a wonderful sight. Such enjoyment. Once again, I cannot stress the versatality of this machine enough. Grieta makes cards, so you can imagine – a new world has now opened for her.

Here we have a picture showing the sheer concentration as she started working her machine.

Bertha Pienaar and Elize Spies  scrapped their advent calendars this week. Bertha joined us from East London – her husband attended a conference in PE and this gave her the opportunity to slip away to Jeffreys to come and visit us.

The advent calendar  is such an amazing project as every advent looks different.

Herewith some photos of Bertha and Elize’s projects. Bertha did not have a photograph for the middle of the advent – so she had to improvise – just check the picture.

None of them wanted to waste any time looking up at the camera – isn’t this so typical of scrappers – they always need photos to scrap, but there are never a lot taken of themselves. Here we caught a glimpse of  Elize just as she was looking up.

You will have to use your imagination to get the full picture of Bertha – she concentrated very hard – no time to waste. Hubby may be finished soon and then she had to pack up. So every minute counted.

Children have such an advantage over grown-ups when it comes to scrapping. They are not bound by any rules and guidelines when it comes to creating things.  We noticed this once again in our first children’s class for the December holidays.

Just look at the concentration on these little faces. Isn’t it great to experience the joy of children having fun.

Hi Fellow Scrappers,

News from Bohemian Scrapsody

We can already feel the buzz in the shop.  The festive season is here and everybody is gearing up for all the holiday visitors to Jeffreys Bay.  This is our last news letter for the year as December is too much of a rush. The next one will be sent out in January 2012 – I cannot believe I am typing 2012 already.

Very important!!!. We are organizing the biggest “Scrap-Away at Jeffreys Bay” for the weekend of 30 March – 1 April 2012.  The cost of attendance is R1600.00 per delegate and various payment options will be offered. Travel and accommodation arrangements are the responsibilities of the delegates.

Bookings opened on 1 December 2011.  We plan on kicking off on the Friday – late afternoon – with a ‘getting-to-know’ evening, food and cooking demonstration for scrapper families (this means quick and tasty meals that can be prepared in a jiffy, but will have the appearance of you spending hours in the kitchen). I need not explain why this is so important to all addicted scrappers and card makers. There will be one off-the-page project and 2 double page layouts.  Card makers will have the opportunity of making a number of cards instead of the page layouts. No pressure at all!!!  This will a weekend full of fun, but with some great projects to take home.

The focus will be on ‘local is lekker!’  In other words, we will be making use of local scrappers and teachers for our sessions.  This will also allow us to keep the costs down to a great extent. The goodie bag will look, feel and taste different. So, it will not just contain scrapbooking stuff – very exciting and very interesting!!! The aim of this is that we want some quality time with great friends that share the same hobbies and interests as ours. Fun!!! Fun!! Fun!!  If you want to obtain more information please contact us via e-mail at bohemian@mweb.co.za or phone us on 042 293 3386.  Check out our blog on www.scrapbookrhapsody.com to get an idea of our classes and the mischief we are up to. We have created a special page on our web-site that will allow you to register on-line.

Before we get into the tips, techniques and flavors section, herewith some more good news. Bohemian Scrapsody is running ahead on the 5 month challenge that has been put out by Spellbinders – we have sold the MOST Spellbinders in South Africa for the months of October and November 2011.  I phoned the distributor and told her that she could just as well send all 5 Grand Calibur machines upfront because we WILL be taking this prize every month.  This is such a wonderful cutting system – it sells itself. The vast array of dies and embossing plates are to die for!!! We are so spoilt for choice. The machine cuts and embosses the best of all systems we have seen so far. It is a must for every scrapper – and at a price of R1200.00 it is an absolute give-away. It cuts A4 sized papers, cardstock, pewter, fabric, cork, vellum – it even cuts fondant that we decorate our cakes with. What more can we ask for – a tool that works in the scrap room as well as the kitchen!!!  Herewith the link that will take you to this range of products on our web-site:

http://shop.scrapbookrhapsody.com/c956-0/Spellbinders.aspx

We have also finalized our last scrap kit for 2011. As you can expect, it is titled “Christmas Joy”. As the theme is quite clear, we only put together 1 kit for December. Herewith the layout:

If you would like to order this kit (R125.00 excluding postage and insurance), please contact us via e-mail bohemian@mweb.co.za or telephonically on 042 293 3386.

Herewith some new tips and recommendations for this month of November and December:

Tips

  • This first tip was found on the web and was posted by Debbie – Two Old Crows. This tip is a great one on how to make your own rub-ons at home, but you need to focus on the steps as it could go wrong quite easily if you do not follow it step-by-step.  You need the following supplies to make your own rub-ons:

Transparency paper (purchased at your local office supply store)
Inkjet Printer
Rub-On tool, popsicle stick or credit card

Directions:

  1. Insert the transparency into your inkjet printer so that it prints on the smooth / wrong side of the transparency. Make sure you have placed the smooth side down.
  2. We have found the black ink printed images work the best. If you want a color transfer, we recommend you use strong colors and rub these off on a lighter background page. The smooth papers work the best. The darker, the better!!
  3. Open your favorite word processing or photo program and create the text or image you want to use as a rub on. It is better to choose a picture or quote that uses more ink.
  4. Format your printer settings so that it is set to print on “plain paper”, “best quality” and “mirror image” (the image needs to be reversed especially if you are printing text or it will appear backwards).
  5. Print your “rub-on”
  6. Remove the transparency carefully as the ink will be wet and will smear because you printed on the smooth side of the transparency. Let it dry for approximately 3-5 minutes. Be careful – do not touch it as it will smear.
  7. Place the transparency smooth side down onto your scrapbooking page exactly where you want the image or text to appear. Hold it firmly in place and rub the image with a rub-on tool, popsicle stick or credit card. Ensure that you press hard. Rub over the entire surface of the image.
  8. Carefully pull up the transparency and allow the ink to completely dry before touching.
  9. Use a damp cloth or paper towel to clean off your transparency and get it ready for your next rub-on. You can re-use the transparency over and over and over again.

Be sure to practice first before putting the rub-on on your page. Every inkjet printer is different and drying times may vary, but with a bit of practice you will be creating rub-ons with very little effort.

The following rub-on was created with the inkjet printer and transferred onto a smooth soft-grey cardstock. The result is amazing.

  • If you want to preserve a newspaper article and you are not able to purchase Archival Mist Spray or Make It Acid-Free by Krylon, the best alternative is to scan the article and print the scanned image on acid free paper. The results are great. It usually looks quite similar to the original article.
  • It is sometimes difficult to find a scrapbook paper that reflects a specific theme. One alternative is to scan the newspaper article or the sheet music that relates to your theme e.g. scan the recital music sheet that your child participated in and print it on acid-free scrapbook paper. This makes is totally personal and unique. Some other ideas that can be used for scanning and printing are the sports section of a newspaper, doilies for a lacy background, comic strips, maps and brochures relating to trips.
  •  Our last tip relates to using serviettes as background paper for cutting shapes with your Grand Calibur machine. We can only vouch that it works on this cutting system, but you could try it on any of the other machines. The following steps are important:
  1. Glue the top layer of the serviette of you choice onto a piece of cardstock by using podge. This medium allows the paper to dry quickly. Scrappers Glue stays wet for too long a period.
  2. Use your brayer or craft roller to smooth out any wrinkles and to ensure your serviette is glued down smoothly onto the cardstock.
  3. Once the serviette is dry, use the Grand Calibur with any of the Spellbinder dies of your choice as you would use it for any other scrapbook paper.  The results are stunning. Herewith an example of what we achieved with this process.

Check out all the Spellbinders dies and embossing plates that are available by clicking on this link  http://shop.scrapbookrhapsody.com/Search.aspx?Keyword=spellbinders

Scrapbooking and Card Making “Flavours of the Month”

For the months of November and December the following trends were noticed on the various web-sites and magazines:

  • Flags, flags and more flags….  Most of the pages on toddlers seem to be quite bright and flags are used in abundance. Just have a look at the following example to give you an idea of the way in which the flags were used on this layout we got from ‘The Scraproom’. The layout belongs to Aphra Bolyer.  The bright colors look so vibrant and lively.

  • Colors that are very popular at the moment are bright yellows, greens, reds, blues, oranges and the like. Page layouts are also more modern, especially when scrapping young children.  Patterned papers printed with cartoon figures are also very popular. One should however be careful not to go too wild with these papers as your photo(s) could easily disappear and get lost on a very busy paper.

Yours in Scrapping,

Bohemian Scrapsody

Here are the completed scrapbook pages.  Ushca was a five year old Labrador that specialized in narcotic detection.

Ikke, an imported Belgium Sheppard was a two and a half year old patrol dog.

Constable Yolande Thysse was the handler of Ushca.  The dog really fulfilled the duties of fighting crime by detecting a huge amount of narcotics in the Humansdorp area.   This was also the only narcotic trained dog in this area.

Ikke was trained in 2010 for patrol work.  After being imported from Holland, Ikke was one of six Malenois (Belgium Sheppard) brought into the country to be trained as a Police dog. He was a real one man dog. Only Solly could handle him.  Ikke was a very well maintained and focused dog and really performed his duties to the best of his ability.

We understand that Solly and Yolande will have their new dogs quite soon. We wish them all the best for the future and pray that they will be very happy with their new partners.  Frank, thank you for allowing us to share in this experience in a small way.
